As the CHELDCO concept evolved the functionality of the products grew more ambiguous, their intention more direct. Beginning with this piece, I tried to draw viewers/consumers out from their product comfort zones and into a world of useless obscurity. I provided all the indications of manufactured goods, such as press-molded parts, factory-style hardware, toggles, and lights. These acted as an invitation to something familiar. This piece, however, functions nothing akin to anything useful.
The TASKMASTER 3000 contains a tiny oil burning motor that spews white smoke from the front grill. The smoke triggers a smoke alarm. I beefed up the appearance of the power supply to give it a “much to do, about nothing,” feel.
