These posters are sized to slip into ad space provided on newspaper boxes. The layout is based on lowbrow phonebook ads for towing and plumbing companies. Its garishness might be labeled anti-beauty by the art world, but these are meant more for public consumption. So ambiguous and subtly surreal, the posters can simply roost in our periphery along with so much of the advertising we’re subjected too. Just as easily, however, Removal’s unlikely service offerings could catch your eye, demanding scrutiny and judgment over its seriousness. I hope to refresh a sense of awareness and criticism regarding the aggressive role advertising and marketing plays in our lives.
